Wheels In Motion new Glen Mercer (The Feelies) solo cd review
May 16, 2007Wow! Gang, thanks for getting this one into my hot little hands to review and
play on the air. I’m sure many of us have had(or aware of) that full on Jungian synchronicity experience when a piece a music discovers YOU (rather than the other way around). I was just playing The Feelies on the air early Sunday Morning…and
then this shows up in the mail…Wheels in Motion does not disappoint. Let’s
face it, we are all getting older and some of us are simply getting better, and
Glen’s lyrics keenly reflect that. The same tight rhythmic energy and time
changes that sat The Feelies apart from their college indie radio hey day peers
is still omnipresent (as it should be since all the old Feelies contributed and
played drums on this album). We find a solid set of tracks that leads the
humble listener past nostalgia street and right onto the highway of now and
beyond. In a world full of static, and media pollution, where any monkey with
pro-tools and cdr’s can glut our radio station mailbox, I wade through and feel my faith renewed in independent music by albums like Wheels in Motion. Glen Mercer
has saved us all and I wish him the best for it. All I can do is turn these grooves into
radio waves and let them echo into space for eternity…yep, it’s that good. I
can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve listened to an entire album right
out of the box…Glen Mercer has his Wheels in Motion and I’m glad to be invited
along for a ride. Thank you Pravda Records.
